About road manners...

This post is made on Tuesday, 14 June 2005 at 8.25pm.

We are all road user in some way or another. You could be a pedestrian, cyclist (incl motorcyclist), car drivers, bus/ lorry drivers or even a passenger to any of the mode of transport. Nobody escapes the occasional (more often frequent) problematic road users...in many forms to test ones patience and perseverence to the many facets of human trait.

Lets look from the pedestrian view point. As one trod along the side of the road on the five-foot path, his/ her path is obstructed by some inconsiderate bicycle/ motorcycle owners taking up the five-foot way as if it is meant for parking their vehicle. So what does the pedestrian do? Naturally, he/ she has to do a diversion...and where else but towards the road; and in doing so putting his/ her safety in danger. Another motorcyclist could just be the other road user to knock into these pedestrian! Uurgh! How frustrating!
The roads are now packed with old and new vehicles of many sizes nd speed! One cannot help to notice the daredevil motocyclist zigzagging between cars and lorries at breakneck speed as though the checquered flag is waiting for his podium finish...is he does finish in one piece! There is also the totally altered cars with humongous exhaust doing the race of their life!
On one normal primary road, one can experience these nuisance driver tailing behind another car as though they are stuck together...and all because he can wait. He would continuously harrass the slower driver (doing the allowed speed limit) by inching very very close and flashing his lights. If that fails, he would be hoking like nobody's business all the way...eventually overtaking the poor sod... on his left!
There is also this extremely careful driver moving along like sunday driving around the park... and it is a working day when the traffic is extra heavy and the morning rush is on. What shall we do with these sort of drivers?
The giants of the roads would be the empty trucks... minus their loads. They would be zooming past everyone with all their engine's might...and in doing so put everyone else in danger. Are they rushing for their punch clock?
For whatever reason, the road remains an important means for travel. So make it safe for you and for others.
PakTeh.
